Looks that make you feel

And we're back!

If you haven't been hearing much from us lately, I've been really busy with some animation work, and quite frankly, gotten quite obsessed with it.

A huge aspect of games and storytelling is getting that awesome visual experience — how much of it you can pack in each second of a scene or playtime.

[ Rocket Barraaaaaaaaage! ]

Author D.L. Hughes said, "one way to tell if you've cast a good spell is if it works on you as well" (paraphrasing; yea I got bars).

So we're trying real hard to nail that. Picture lab explosions and a basketful of crumpled paper. Or not, we don't like wasting paper.

We've been getting a whole lot of great feedback about the art and style of Boom Co, as well as a few questions here and there about the design process behind them.

All the art elements had to start at the story level.

The universe and economy of Boom Co are based on and divided into factions — from a centralized government with very little influence in the universe, to gigantic shipping companies that can send you a pair of used socks that belonged to your favorite idol from the other end of the galaxy in just 2-5 business days, provided a notorious fleet of pirates don't intercept your order, typically by ramming ten of their friends into the delivery transport freighter.

By processing each faction's traits, values, and motivation, we develop different styles of vehicles and weaponry which we think will serve and suit them best.  For example, one of the factions is basically styled after high-end brands like present-day Dior or Coach. Since they have a certain image to project — and protect — their ships and weapons should be of the super upper-class spectrum so that they actually appreciate at resale. They must also be stealth-like, with cloaking systems and such, when they need to do something shady that nobody needs to know about.

We'll be teasing the world and the characters of Boom Co more frequently and in greater depth; stay tuned for that! /B
